Forum Brief: City of London (Ward Elections) Bill
MPs voted on Monday to approve the City of London (Ward Elections) Bill, which seeks to reform the current voting system for electing members to the Court of Common Council.
MPs voted by 278 to 30 to approve the Bill on Third Reading. It will now progress to the House of Lords where it will have to gain similar approval before it reaches the statute book.
Forum Response: Corporation of London
Judith Mayhew, chairman of the Corporation of London's policy and resources committee, told ePolitix.com: "We're delighted that the Bill has successfully passed through the Commons. A modern international business centre needs a voting system to match and we're very pleased that MPs have understood the importance of these changes. We now hope that the Bill will gain a similar level of support in the House of Lords."
