Forum Brief: European waste directive
UK retailers have today broadly welcomed the second reading of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive in the European parliament.
They believe that it is correct that producers of electrical and electronic goods design and produce products that are greener in nature and therefore will be easier to dispose of in the future.
Forum Response: British Retail Consortium
Bill Moyes, director general of the British Retail Consortium, told ePolitix.com: "Our campaigning work with the European parliament has paid off. Our sustainable retailing strategy promotes the sourcing of greener goods.
We have made it clear that the future is recyclable products, the EU has agreed with us. It is now up to the UK government in consultation with business to ensure that this directive is properly implemented."
