Forum Brief: European GMO regulations

The European Commission is considering two legislative proposals regarding the marketing, traceability and labelling of genetically modified organisms.

The plans also apply to food products derived from GMOs and are now being discussed in the European parliament.

Forum Response: British Retail Consortium

Bill Moyes, director general of the British Retail Consortium, told ePolitix.com: "Effective traceability and segregation systems are already in place and should be further encouraged. Combined strict traceability, accurate labelling and claims will give consumer informed choice and confidence in the use of GM technology in food products."
