Falconer to axe long fraud trials
The lord chancellor has promised to restrict fraud trials to just a "few months at the very most."
In a bid to cut the cost to the taxpayer and stop some cases from collapsing, Cabinet minister Lord Falconer said: "The days of the 18-month trial are over."
He is understood to be concerned that lawyers are stringing out trials to boost their fees.
