The FT reports that pressure to make cost savings means that the Ministry of Defence is continuing to sell off large chunks of its huge property portfolio.

The department wants to ensure its estate is no larger than needed for defence purposes.

One example is Chelsea Barracks in London, where over a thousand soldiers live and work.

Ministers are reportedly close to agreeing to sell, or partially sell, the 13-acre site for property development purposes.
