A vote today in the European parliament on ending Britain's opt-out from the working time directive looks to be on a knife edge.

While the socialist group, including Labour MEPs, appear set to support enforcing a maximum working week, Liberals and the centre-right are expected to vote against ending UK employers' right to withdraw.
