Labour split on working week
Labour will be torn between its business commitments and union backers this week when its MEPs vote on plans to remove Britian's opt-out from the European working time directive.
The government is pledged to retain the right for employers to exempt themselves from the maximum 48-hour working week.
But under pressure from the unions, the party's European parliamentarians are set to support a motion to end the opt-out.
