Government 'covered up' illegal migrant numbers
The government has been accused of covering up estimates from its own experts that up to 500,000 illegal immigrants are living and working in Britain.
The figure was drawn up by Professor John Salt, who was commissioned by the government to find ways of counting those living here illegally.
But the figures were left out of Salt's report, which was published by the Home Office last year, and ministers have repeatedly insisted there is no official estimate of illegal migrant numbers.
