Tony Blair has promised that the government will continue to help workers at MG Rover and its suppliers.

The prime minister was speaking while campaigning in Labour marginals in the West Midlands.

He said the collapse of the business was "terrible" and told local radio: "We will stick by them, we will help with seeking new jobs, with retraining, with redundancy, with protecting their pension . . . everything we can do, we will do."
