Nearly 10 per cent of British employers have hired workers from the new EU accession countries, according to Manpower, one of the world's biggest recruitment agencies.

Manpower said the workers, mostly from Eastern European countries, had proved "a valuable resource for British businesses" and had not swamped the economy as some critics had feared.
