Labour solidifies poll lead

Two opinion polls show that Labour is maintaining its opinion poll lead over the Conservatives.

The latest ICM poll for the Guardian puts Labour on 39 per cent the Conservatives on 33 and the Lib Dems on 22. There is little change, suggesting support is firming up among previously floating voters.

The same poll also shows that almost half of all postal voters are backing Tony Blair's party.

Meanwhile, a Populus tracker poll for today's Times also puts Labour unchanged on 39 points, the Tories on 33 points and the Lib Dems on 21.
