Charles and Sarah Kennedy left hospital yesterday with their newborn son, Donald James, pictured in all the papers.

Saying he was their "pride and joy", the Liberal Democrat leader said he was "exceptionally happy" about the arrival of his first child.

The 6lb 9oz baby was born at 12.14am and shown to photographers outside St Thomas' hospital opposite the House of Commons.

The family returned to their London home where Kennedy will stay with his wife before returning to the campaign trail at the end of the week to launch his party's manifesto.
