Unions win cash for training workers

The education secretary Ruth Kelly is set to give trade unions millions of pounds to fund the training of workers.

Kelly and TUC boss Brendan Barber will together launch plans for a £4.5m union academy.

The news comes as the FT reports that a worsening skills shortage is holding back British industry.
