Howard hits out at Labour's army cuts
The government's announcement of cuts in manpower across all three armed services amounted to a "stab in the back", Michael Howard said yesterday.
The Tory leader said that he failed to understand how the cuts could be justified at a time of "growing threats, global instability and new dangers".
He promised that a Conservative government would reinstate the four battalions scheduled to be cut under Labour's restructuring of the infantry which was announced in December.
