Jowell to overhaul BBC governance
Culture secretary Tessa Jowell will today set out the government's plans for the future of the BBC.
The Guardian reports that calls for part of the licence fee to be made available to other broadcasters - in order to fund more public service television - are to be rejected.
However, plans could be unveiled to shake up the role of the BBC's board of governors.
The current board could be replaced by independent trustees, who will be tasked with ensuring the BBC sticks to its remit.
