Health leaders have called for the National Audit Office to investigate shortages of out-of-hours GP cover following a change in family doctors' contracts this year.

The National Association of GP Co-operatives claimed yesterday that cash shortages are threatening care levels since doctors were allowed to opt out of night and weekend shifts.
