Treasury denies plans for windfall tax on oil companies
The Treasury has rejected claims it is planning a new windfall levy on energy producers.
John Healey, economic secretary to the Treasury, told MPs such a move was not under consideration.
He added: "When profits and prices are high, of course, oil companies pay more tax... next year we expect in North Sea taxes alone, oil companies to contribute almost £6 billion."
