MPs criticise 'haphazard' enquiries
MPs have sharply criticised the way official inquiries are appointed to examine controversies such as pre-war weapons intelligence on Iraq and how David Blunkett's lover got a visa for her nanny.
The Commons committee which investigated the system after widespread dismay over the Butler, Hutton and Budd reports yesterday concluded that the often "haphazard" inquiries should be better managed, cheaper and quicker.
