The Sun reports today that Gordon Brown is prepared to accept a move from the Treasury to the Foreign Office, but only on his own terms.

Trevor Kavanagh, the paper's political editor, says the chancellor will take the post of foreign secretary if Tony Blair backs his bid to become the next Labour leader, and he will not accept a move that is portrayed as a demotion.

Writing in the Times, Peter Riddell says Brown should accept a move to the Foreign Office.

He says that the chancellor could lead the Yes campaign on the EU constitution, helping to secure a victory for the government and ensuring that his own premiership does not get off to "the worst possible start" of having to renegotiate the treaty.
