Adams admits possible IRA role in heist

Republican leader Gerry Adams has admitted for the first time that the IRA may have been involved in the Belfast Northern Bank raid.

He told Spanish radio that: "The IRA has said it was not involved. I believe them but maybe I am wrong."

The Sinn Fein leader's move came amid intense pressure from the British and Irish governments - who have both blamed the IRA - and community condemnation of a republican murder cover up.
