Ministers face renewed calls for elected Lords
Senior MPs have renewed their calls for a completely elected second chamber.
The cross-party committee examining House of Lords reform, whose members include Robin Cook and former chancellor Ken Clarke, recommended that one third of the chamber would be elected at every general election using proportional representation, with members serving one long term equivalent to three Commons terms.
"As democratic as possible surely has to imply that a majority has to be elected," said Cook.
