IRA pressured over murder

The IRA is facing renewed calls to hand over 12 members accused of participating in the murder of a 33-year-old Catholic man.

The victim's family held a rally in the heart of a republican stronghold in Belfast on Sunday.

A statement from the IRA on Friday evening said that three "volunteers", two described as "high-ranking", had been dismissed after an internal investigation.

In South Armagh, Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams claimed he stood behind the family's demands for the truth.

"Robert McCartney's murder has shocked hundreds of thousands of republicans throughout Ireland and we are united in our call for anyone with information about the killing to come forward," he said.
