Local MP Tony Lloyd has taken up the fight against the proposed takeover of Manchester United by American tycoon Malcolm Glazer.

Calling on the DTI to intervene he claimed the football club is of "national importance" and should be subject to public interest protection, despite the fact that it is a stock exchange listed corporation.
