Nelson Mandela has called on the British people to lead the campaign against global poverty.

The former South African president and global statesman told a crowd in Trafalgar Square on Thursday that "poverty and inequality are such terrible scourges of our time".

Mandela is in London to address this weekend's meeting of G7 finance ministers.
