Thatcher goes out of Africa

Sir Mark Thatcher has left South Africa after he pleaded guilty to unwittingly help bankroll a failed coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea.

The son of the former prime minister lands in Frankfurt on Friday morning before flying to Dallas to be reunited with his wife and two children.

The court ordered Sir Mark to pay a fine of three million rand (£265,000) and sentenced him to a four-year jail term, suspended for five years on condition that he does not again break South Africa's tough anti-mercenary laws.
