Fire fighters warn against 999 reforms
The government's plans to reform fire emergency call centres face "a very high risk of total failure", according to a leaked confidential report from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Ministers want to close all 46 fire service 999 call centres in England and replace them with nine large regional centres to be developed by the private sector.
The report admits the plans could increase council tax and lead to a reduced service.
