Sir Mark Thatcher is today expected to appear in a South African court where he will plead guilty to financing a helicopter allegedly to be used in an African coup plot.

As part of the plea bargain, Sir Mark will face a £268,000 fine but is likely to avoid a custodial sentence.

He denies, however, any knowledge of the coup plot.
