No move to amend BBC charter

Tessa Jowell has suggested that the government will reject calls to reduce the length of the BBC's royal charter from 10 years to five.

In a speech to the Oxford Media Convention, the culture secretary hinted that the charter would not be examined again until 2017, when a 10-year charter beginning in 2007 would expire.
