Rural affairs minister Alun Michael has announced the government will legislate to give councils the power to protect rural paths from off-road vehicles.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs does not want to reverse the existing classification that allows vehicles to use tracks but wants local authorities to judge each case on its merits.
