Ministers are planning to recruit a team of information technology experts with extensive management experience to modernise the way public services are delivered.

Ian Watmore, the government's chief information officer, said he was looking for six to 10 highly experienced people in IT who would be sent to departments to work on important projects.

"We need a heavy hitter brigade who can work on projects across the board," he said.
