BBC set to lose 3,000 jobs
BBC director general Mark Thompson has pledged "nothing short of a transformation" within the corporation.
The comments came as he announced the loss of 3,000 jobs - a move which will cost £100 million in the short-term.
Peter Bazalgette, chairman of Endemol UK, the company responsible for programmes such as Big Brother, said: "The BBC has undergone a total shift of emphasis. This is a serious plan for its long-term future but it may not go far enough for Tessa Jowell."
Thompson must await the verdict of the culture secretary and the BBC Governors, who will give their formal reaction to the plans next year.
