Tories under pressure over women candidates

Unless the Tories gain a substantial number of seats from Labour, less than 10 per cent of Conservative MPs in the next parliament will be women.

The Times reveals that only two women have been pre-selected for the 15 seats in which an MP is retiring.

Three of the pending departures - Virginia Bottomley, Gillian Shephard and Marion Roe - are women who have been replaced by male candidates.
