An independent inquiry will be launched today into allegations Kevin Curran was elected as GMB general secretary on a rigged ballot.

Curran's supporters are accused of sending thousands of voting forms to "safe houses" and unlawfully using the GMB's money to fund his campaign.

Curran is a close ally of Gordon Brown.
