NHS looks to private sector to cut waiting lists
The government is to set up a second wave of independent treatment centres, which are privately owned and run but treat NHS patients, in order to further cut waiting lists by 2008.
The centres will be able to treat another 250,000 patients a year.
The five-year deal is expected to be worth around £500 million annually, says the Department of Health.
