Hoon stands by army overhaul
Defence secretary Geoff Hoon yesterday defended the government's plans to reduce the number of infantry battalions.
Despite criticism of moves to scrap the Black Watch regiment, he said failure to reform the armed forces' structure would leave them as a museum piece "on excellent display but never taken out of their case for operational use".
