Iain Duncan Smith has said the Tories should replicate George Bush's tactics in the American presidential campaign by focusing on traditional Conservative values.

Interviewed in the Independent, the former Tory leader reveals that he is to publish a pamphlet on the lessons that the Tories can learn from the successes of Bush and John Howard in Australia.

Duncan Smith will call on the Conservative leadership to focus on "compassionate conservatism" and said the key lesson was to "be true to yourself, be true to your values".
