Spanish racism row rumbles on

Politicians have continued to protest against the racist chanting by Spanish football supporters during England's game in Madrid on Wednesday night.

Sports minister Richard Caborn has demanded "the firmest possible action" against the supporters responsible.

Tony Blair entered the row, with his spokesman saying: "The prime minister, like everybody in the country, was very disappointed with what happened in Spain.

"He believes racism has no part to play in sport, or anywhere else for that matter."

The Tories said that Spain should, if necessary, be forced to play its next home game behind closed doors as a punishment.
