Michael Howard has lodged a formal complaint to the BBC over a Newsnight report broadcast earlier this week by Jeremy Paxman.

The Tory leader was furious at the tone and content of the report about a visit to Cornwall.

Howard's press secretary, Guy Black, condemned the coverage as unbalanced, partisan and biased.
