MPs' sitting hours under fire
A deputy speaker of the House of Commons has claimed that changes in the sitting hours has meant that legislation is going through parliament without being properly debated.
Sir Alan Haselhurst said the greatest difficulties occur when bills go into committee stage.
Earlier votes in the chamber had left many Commons restaurants and bars deserted during evenings, which meant MPs were unwilling to sit late in committees looking at legislation in detail, he said.
