The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry yesterday spoke out against government plans to cut the price of prescription medications as "unnecessary", despite agreeing to the deal.

The industry body said the price of drugs is falling fast anyway.

Meanwhile the Department of Health announced an agreement with software giant Microsoft yesterday cutting the cost of supplying the NHS with computer programmes.
