Blunkett issues al Qaeda warning

David Blunkett has claimed that al Qaeda is "on our doorstep and threatening our lives".

Speaking yesterday, the home secretary claimed that forthcoming court cases will reveal the full threat to Britain from terrorism.

He said: "People don't want to have us with very good systems of picking their bodies up. They want us to have very good systems of protecting their lives."

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality will urge leaders of Britain's moderate Muslim community to help the process of integration into British society by doing more to condemn terrorism.

At the same time British society has to show it is genuine in its respect for the Muslim community, Trevor Phillips will say in a speech tomorrow.
