MPs attack Woolf over reduced jail terms
MPs on the home affairs committee have criticised lord chief justice Lord Woolf's proposals to reduce sentencing for murderers who enter an early guilty plea.
In a report published today, the committee say that the discounts in murder cases do not reflect "the wishes of parliament or public disquiet".
The committee also criticise the way the reduced sentence proposal was inserted in the most recent Criminal Justice Act with little scrutiny by MPs or peers.
