Howard stands by his Brixton police claim

Michael Howard has rejected criticism of his Tory conference attack on visible policing on the streets of Brixton.

The Conservative leader has been attacked by officers, local people and the prime minister over his claim that he did not see any police on a recent two hour visit to the area.

Howard has hit back criticising "selective statistics" and insisting that recorded crime has risen by nearly 850,000 under Labour.
