Short claims Blair offered to stand down
Tony Blair told Gordon Brown he would stand down as prime minister before the next general election if the chancellor supported his plan to take Britain into the single currency.
The allegation is made in a book by Clare Short, the former international development secretary and a former Brown ally, which is being serialised in the Independent.
