Tory support assists 'gay marriage' bill
The government yesterday overturned Lords amendments to its Civil Partnerships Bill with the help of frontbench support from the Conservatives.
Although the Tories were given a free vote on the issue, with some right-wingers accussing ministers of legalising gay marriage, party leader Michael Howard leant his support to the measure which will allow for inheritance and tax rights akin to civil weddings.
