NHS productivity falls under Labour

New figures have revealed a consistent drop in NHS productivity under Labour.

The data revealed that productivity fell by between four and eight per cent in the six years to 2003.

Shadow chancellor Oliver Letwin said "spending on hospitals alone has risen five times as fast as the number of hospital treatments".

However health secretary John Reid strongly disputes the data's representation of NHS performance and quality.
