GPs to get Tory purchasing powers back
Ministers will today commit to give GPs back powers that Labour scrapped when it came to office in 1997.
Family doctors will be able to commission care directly from their budgets, with the Department of Health promising that private sector treatments will be just as easy to buy as those on the NHS.
