Party poll puts pressure on Blair

A Labour poll suggests that the party may lose the votes of millions of disillusioned voters at the next general election.

The survey says that Tony Blair must focus on domestic issues.

A senior source told the Mirror: "If Mr Blair focuses relentlessly on the everyday worries of those middle-class people, all the evidence shows they are still up for grabs and will stick with us."

Meanwhile, a YouGov poll for the Economist finds that nearly seven out of 10 voters believe that their overall tax bills have gone up since Tony Blair came to power.

And 64 per cent believe they will go up again if Labour wins the next election.

Some 60 per cent say that schools, hospitals and other services have not improved despite their higher taxes.
