Peter Mandelson failed to declare his former paid directorship of advertising firm Clemmow Hornby Inge on a disclosure form he filled in following his appointment as trade commissioner in Brussels.

Next Monday he will appear before the European parliament's trade committee, which can demand answers on virtually any subject.
