Labour left would oppose Brown

A left-wing Labour MP has said he would stand against Gordon Brown in a future leadership contest.

Alan Simpson, a leading member of the Campaign Group of MPs, said: "If Blair stood down, the left would certainly challenge any presumption of a shoo-in for Mr Brown."
